A long standing interest in the singer-songwriter musical category, Jim has listened to John Hiatt, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Richard Shindell, Jackson Browne, Fred Eaglesmith, Dave Gunning, Ron Hynes and many more. These artists have no doubt influenced Jim's writing and performance style. Jim's first recording, titled "Something Happened" was released in the spring of 2010. Recorded at "Wee House of Music Co." in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, the record features the talents of Dave Gunning, J.P. Cormier, Fleur Mainville and Jonathan MacDougall.
Although this is a debut recording, many friends in the business have stated that the CD is as good as many they have heard from artists who are releasing their fourth or fifth album.
Jim has been co-writing with Dave Gunning on a somewhat regular basis and they have written more than a half-dozen songs together. He has shared the stage with Dave, as well as Gordie Sampson, J.P. Cormier, Susan Crowe, Dave Carroll, Fleur Mainville, Mike Plume, Christina Martin, David Myles, Ian Foster, Laura Smith, David Francey, and James Keelaghan.
Jim was one of the successful contestants in the Stan Rogers Festival's Video Contest, winning a performing slot at the festival.
Another highlight this summer was being named first runner-up in the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival's Songwriters Contest.
